One recent Sunday, the girls and I headed a little farther out of town to hike around Bandar Khairan (or Bandar Khiran or various other spellings or BK as I will now refer to it) to see where the paths took us. We knew we would get to a beach, but we really had no idea what we would find. What did we find? A beautiful, secluded, unpolluted beach.

First off, you drive toward the BK viewpoint as marked on Google. As you near the viewpoint, there is a place to divert on your left. This is where people with 4x4s can drive down and unload jet skis and the like. It is pretty steep. You could also park at the top and walk down. But following the road up and to the right ends at a flat dirt lot at the top. From here, there is a walking path that is unmarked but clearly visible. Follow this.

As you can see from this map, the "BK Hike trailhead" is where you start. Near that is the jet ski launch beach. The red marker on the right labeled, " BA ladies..." was our beach. |

From the "parking lot", the trail is seen winding away on the left of the picture. |
To call this a hike is a bit of a stretch. It's more like a stroll. You are following a trail down and around. Out and back are both easy. At one point, there is a fork in the trail. We followed the fork to the right for what we assume was a longer path. Going to the left would end at a different beach, probably.
Anyways, the trail winds down and around eventually opening up into a wide expanse leading to the beach. Probably plenty of space to camp in this open area if you carry your camping gear in. There's not much in the way of shade, but we did get interrupted by a trail of goats all migrating somewhere. Seriously, we had to hold back our mascot dog because she was very intrigued by the goats.

The beach really was beautiful. There is a large trash bin, so there is no excuse for littering. People had been before us and will be after us. There were some lovely little gems we found. I loved a little makeshift table and bench made out of rocks. And someone had written a happy birthday note out of rocks, but only "happy" remained untouched.

There was even evidence of sea turtles that had nested here. The sand was covered with baby sea turtle's adorable little tracks as they made their way to the ocean. There were some large divots in the ground where the nests were. And there were even some leftover shell fragments. Oh to have seen a baby sea turtle on this day!

Looking forward to taking the family to some of these beaches soon for a day. Maybe we'll pack a lunch.
