Qurum Park

We spend many weekends being tourists in our own town.  It might be weird if we had always lived here, but we haven’t.  It’s a great way to slowly expand the area that we know.

Today I took the boys to Qurum Park while Stephen was gone.  I don’t do much driving yet, but this park is about 5 minutes away.  It took us longer to get there because Waze sent me to a non entrance to the park thinking I could get there.  Luckily I knew of a restaurant next door to the main entrance of the park, so I routed there instead.

We went on a Saturday morning to avoid any craziness that might come up on a weekend evening.  It was us, a family from the UK, a bunch of workers, and a random guy or two.  One local friend mentioned that the parking lot can get packed at night.  Apparently, Shatti Beach where we often go on Saturday mornings can also get packed at night.  Who knew?

Anyways, it is a very lovely park.  Well manicured with a variety of plants in various shades and shapes.  They had some bushes shaped in triangles even.  And the park is huge!  There are two playgrounds with another being built, a small amusement park that is used in cooler weather, a whole store/café area that is used in cooler weather, a historic area that is presumably used in cooler weather, a waterfall, a large pond, many fountains, a couple of amphitheaters, an exercise park, and many features added for interest.

A beautiful flowered tunnel.
The pond with the fountain.
A manicured bush in the shape of triangles.
The boys enjoyed playing at both playgrounds.  There really were some very creative ways to get up and across the equipment.  The sprinklers turned on at one of the playground areas.  I didn’t know the sprinklers would come my way and got soaked!  At least I was a little cool on half my body.

The larger playground.

The smaller playground.

The boys crossing a bridge playing a game of directing each other in new ways to get around the playground.
I loved this bridge.  There is a wooden base with wooden steps that can swing as you walk.

We caught lots of Pokémon and stopped at many Pokéstops and Pokégyms.  If you don’t understand those terms, then you don’t know anyone who plays Pokémon Go.  We are a bit obsessed.  I’ll outline how it has kept us active later.

"Aladin's ship"
A decorative fort in the park.  There are two of these near the pond.
After playing, walking around the pond, and taking lots of pictures, we were hot and ready for lunch.  Next time I’m bringing water bottles.  Also, we can’t wait to come as it gets cooler out.  Definitely a great park for play!
